Jacqui - Thanks for your comment! I tend to agree - often, there is a lot going on, and remembering names is not top-of-mind. Lee's post reminded me to be more mindful!

Miriam,

What a great reminder for all of us! I am one who struggles with names. I'll be face to face with a new person, or even several new people at once, and there are so many senses being stimulated (visual, auditory, the touch of a handshake), that I can be overwhelmed with remembering the syllables of their names.

Your multiple examples of 'how' to remember names will aid many of us who need to improve our name-recall skills.

Thank you!

Matthew - That is true -- I did not include that reminder in the post. Hopefully, if someone has a unique name people have trouble pronouncing, he or she will correct the new contact right away to avoid any problems. Your suggestion also reminds us how important it is to be a good listener, which I recently blogged about in this column. It's another overlooked, but important skill!

I would just like to remind everyone that remembering the person's name is great, but not if you can't pronounce it correctly. Many people take offense if you cannot say their name properly. Best of luck to everyone on their job/internship hunts.
