This is an awesome post to bring to light some things that job seekers should be aware of. It's important to be proactive and also utilize all of the resources available to you. Recruiters are a great way to connect with someone who will be able to match your experience and skills with availabilities in your desired industry. One great recruiter in the Central New Jersey region is The Wyckoff Group (http://www.snellingnj.com/) They have a candidate resource center full of tips for job seekers.

I'm not sure when or how we created a culture of "entitlement" but job seekers who assume that somebody else will do it for them have punched their ticket to failure. Like any other business decision, energy and resources must be focused on where each individual has control over the situation and not wasted on blind alleys and dead ends. Starting each day with your suggested mantra of "If it is to be, it’s up to me" can reinforce a positive attitude and move a job search in the right direction.

Thanks Tim -- I can usually count on you to have something smart to say!

This week has been my week of reminding job seekers to "be in the game" -- to look, act, and perform as if a job search is a 24/7 job -- which of course it is.

Thanks for the concrete examples which I shall shamelessly refer to (with attribution!).
