Had a horrible experience with Jay James Seirmarco who works at SugarCRM. He tells employees to quit. People will quit on their own volition Jay - dont getting into shouting matches to get employees all emotional that they do not know what they are saying. Jay Seirmarco is the worst boss in history.

We know managers like that working in Hackensack Hospital NJ, running research scum, using federal money. They can't manage themselves, producing zero results, but instead drive people under them nuts. Talking about big professore Stacy Zamudio and Nick Illsley, they are the classical case of bad management and research fraud.

I can totally relate to just about every one of the characteristics of a bad boss described above. I hve had my share of good and mediocre ones, and my share of a few bad and one horrible one. Fortunately the good outweigh the bad much of the time, but the reality is that we all have a boss that we just don't see eye to eye with or click with at some point in our working careers. For those who say they have never had a bad boss, I don't believe them.

I am proud to say I have overall better leadership in my department now. But I am on my fourth immediate supervisor in my department since my building opened several years ago. We have also had one really good interim boss that would have offered the job but did not want it because it did not have the work-life balance he was seeking. Granted turnover is common in my industry in general. But we go through not only so many associates but also bosses. Some are better than others of course. But even if you don't see eye to eye on everything you should at least get along with them and they should respect you as long as you respect them.

My last boss did not do that. When he came in, he came with the goal of cleaning up my department. I don't mean by making it better, but by cleaning house and getting rid of a lot of employees. If he liked you, you could get away with murder no matter how bad an employee you were. But if he did not like you, look out because he would look for some reason to document or fire you at the drop of a hat. No more than a month into his tenure there, he was already giving people bad reviews and denying them raises when he had not known them very long. The truth is he was looking to save money by not giving raises and by getting rid of people, particularly charter members that had been there for two years already since the property opened. I had never had one write up in my previous two years there, and then all of a sudden I had write ups.

Then we learned his true motives. He wanted to slowly eliminate all charter members and people that started befoe he came and hire all of his own people. He wanted people that he could feel truly superior to. He enjoyed documenting and terminating people. He went in cycles of particular times that he targeted particular people. Once he got rid of someone in my unit, I just knew I would be next. Turns out I almost was. Then I got my lawyers and people from an agency to advocate for me and coach me. Then, as fate would have it, he was promoted and moved to another department in my building. We got an interim better boss, and I got coaching. I passed my review and got a raise. He is doing the same things up there he did in my department. It will be interesting to see how many people up there are still there in 6 months to a year. My current boss has her moments but is decent.

The point is advocate for yourself if you feel you are being treated unfairly or unprofessionally. You may lose, but it is worth a try.

I had a horrific experience with my last company. I worked for Wingspan Portfolio Advisors in Carrollton, TX which was a small startup. They were handling foreclosures and loan modifications for Bank of America.

I had no clue what I was in for. One manager, Melanie Pellegrino, openly referred to blacks as "roaches".. the other manager, Justin Belter, in a fit of anger, called a black coworker the "N" word forcing the poor guy to walk out on the spot and quit.

Later we all found out the black employees were being paid less money than the white employees. Now the company is embroiled in racial discrimation lawsuits. They have damaged some employees to the point where they now get disability. Mental disability. Unbelievable.

But what goes around comes around. The company just lost a major contract and is now getting ready to lay off around 459 employees.

The bad thing is this is probably for the best for those folks to reposition themselves. When I was at Wingspan Portfolio Advisors we often were forced to lie to bank of america mortgage customers who were calling and writing in regarding their loan documentation. Due to this many people loss their homes.

The managers had us do this..

Another key indicator of a difficult boss is indifference. Critical issues are not dealt with or the individual displays withdrawal. As an employee the communication challenge increases dramatically to get the manager to engage.

Wow, it's not just me! Working for a boss like this can be so frustrating! I just want to do a good job at my job and I get zero feedback.
