This article is very interesting. After an interview I was refused because I asked unnecessary questions. It's good to have as many Degrees you can and to ask fewer questions. Simple and polite language is most recommended.

Fred, your comments sound like those from the worst possible candidate to hire, the entitled one. Often times we are NOT looking for the cheapest applicant, but the BEST one. And, as many human resource and hiring managers know, technical skills is usually the 3d or 4th most important criteria. ATTITUDE, personality, ability to be managed, those are all far more important. I'm willing to be you sound so bitter because you've been passed over for a number of jobs you thought you deserved (were entitled) to have, and instead of believing that it's your fault for a poor attitude, you blame the company.

First of all, if you were to follow Mr. Salusbury's advice it is highly unlikely that you will ever get an interview let alone an offer. As for the 10 questions in the article, I agree that they would severely hurt your chances at landing the job. However, variations of 9 and 10 are usually acceptable at the end of most interviews.

For 9, asking the interviewer what he or she considers to be the biggest challenge for the position is okay as long as it hasn't been previously addressed. If you do ask it, absolutely make sure that you respond with how you would approach that problem.

For 10, the variation would be to ask if the interviewer had any concerns or reservations about you as a candidate that haven't been discussed in the interview. It's not appropriate at every interview but it is a perfect opportunity to make your final point. If you use it, it should be your last question and even if the interviewer says nothing you should use that as the launch to summarize why you feel you are the ideal candidate for the position. Keep it brief and on point.

1st question....before scheduling the interview. Do you have final say of hiring power? If not I do not want interview.

2nd question....I want a yes or no at the end of the interview. No I'll get back to you...or we have other candidates.

That all means they are looking for the cheapest most desperate applicant, which is OK if you are that person.

Your time is as valuable as theirs...let them know that. Up front.

The only question I asked at my job interview was what the dress code was. I work on Commuter Trains which is a dirty job, didn't want to have to dress like a normal electrical engineer if I was going to be getting greasy and dirty all day!
