An addendum to #10: Please, for the love of God and all that's holy, don't ever, EVER, say "Thanks for all you do."

That will just indicate that you have no clue what your employees do.

Thank you for this. I think there's a lot of people out there who know how not to be a bad manager, but aren't sure of the day to day actions that will turn them in to a good manager. It can be hard for someone just starting to manage to know how to improve if they don't have any strong role models
