I got headhunted as a journalist after launching a blog online over five years ago. Blogging opens up new doors, allows you to break down barriers with professionals who are often hard to reach via phone or email. Comment on their blog and hey presto, you have instant rapport.

I really dislike when people give the advice to start a blog as the best way for professional development or to earn money. A lot of work has to go into the blog for it to be the ticket to your next job or to make enough money for it to be sustaining.

Thanks for providing the pros of blogging and all of the commitments needed for it to be successful.

Starting a blog has done wonders for my career. I added my blog to my resume and it is the number one thing I am asked about. Done right, it can be impressive and add another layer to your candidacy as you'll definitely be memorable.
