The major flaw with this is the group of schools asked - they represent a tiny number of the schools in the country where only a small fraction of students end up attending. The majority of college-bound students go elsewhere. If you look at state universities (where the majority of students end up attending) most of them simply use a matrix of GPA and standardized national test scores to determine admission. While community service is a noble endeavor - kids should do it because they care - not because they think their college will.
