For me, wearing nice clothes helps me a lot with phone interviews. It gets me in a "work" mindset, and I also don't slouch or lounge around while wearing nicer clothes. This helps me sound more alert and interested. Wearing pajamas or torn up jeans makes me feel like putting my feet up and watching TV, and that mindset definitely projects through the phone.
