Another warning sign is when your boss begins to:

- Leave you out of meetings in which you used to attend

- Delegate work to another co-worker that used to be given to you

both these can be explained away, but when there is no discernible reason (ex: you are tied up with another project) one should wonder if this is the beginning of a transition phase.

Your boss says we need to know how you do ______ (fill in the blank) or access to ______, in case you get hit by a bus. At 2 different jobs I heard the phrase 'in case you get hit by a bus' and it was followed by layoffs a couple of weeks later. Should you hear such concern from a boss you might want to start circulating your resume.

My biggest mistake was imagining my team lead, a good friend of mine, would stick up for me. Instead, it was he who signed the warning letter. After I was let go, he explained that he didn't have a choice. I don't talk to him any more.

The team lead quit a month after I was let go, and when another team member announced he was leaving, he was told he was in line for a substantial raise (after receiving no raise in four years, and no annual bonus). He left as planned. And now they're finding it hard to hire.

I wonder why.

#4. It feels like your boss is always hassling you about something. ... they're missing the bigger picture and the ultimate point, which is that there are serious problems with their performance.

It may not be you. It may be your boss. Unfortunately, that brings us back to #5, #6, #7.

3. You've been miserable, angry, or bitter for months.

This is a tough one for me. I've been trying to figure out for quite awhile if I am still happy at my job. There's much about it I like, but the status quo is killing me. Our company is in a holding pattern at the moment so there's nothing new going on, just trying to keep up with the routine stuff. Hopefully once we get out of this rut my job will excite me again. If it doesn't, I guess I'll have to move on. It's tough to think about leaving when you've been in the same place for 11+ years.
