This is probably right on the money: and there's the rub. Especially discouraging is the advice given in tactic no. 1. Who wants a birthday card from someone who's just schmoozing so he or she can look good and advance his or her own interests? Gross.

There's a lot of good advice here, however. And it's good, if nothing else, to keep in mind that many people around you are playing the game.

My supervisor who is best friends with a coworker in our dept. She seems to favor everything and believe everything this person says. The fast is the co-worker is so fake to peoeple and as soon as they turn their back there is nothing but negative remarks made. She people snowballed when I can see right through it. How do you handle someone is is dishonest, vindincive, and a trouble maker? The bad thing is she is 50 years old and you would think she is 12.

I have been at my job for over 10 years.
