Sounds more like 10 things a slave shouldn't say their owner.

How can you claim favoritism at your job? People that get hired because they are friends. I had the position, a friend was hired, they found every legal reason to NOT give me the full time position and named the friend as the new owner of 40+ hours per week. Now I am low man on the totem pole. I do get part time hours and I am grateful BUT, I am having a hard time accepting this.

Disgusting alienation of the self. Akin to base animal hierarchy.

To the writer of this article, you've been made every bit the slave as those that would come to forsakes themselves and believe the nonsense you've printed. I encourage you to read the short story "The Lottery", and very much hope you have the faculty to start picking up the similarities.

I hate to use a tired old quote, but I will anyway. "So tell me, what separates a man, from a slave? Money? Power? NO. A man CHOOSES, a slave OBEYS."

The only means to progress and power in the hands of the worker, the common man, and liberation from the chains of industry, is recognizing choice. No more corporate dogmas. No more nonsense.

Free yourselves. You hurt more than just your own life.

so, say you had been working the job for 5 months and getting 30+ hours a week, and all of a sudden you are getting 10-15. This is your only job, and you can't afford the gas to get to work (2 1-1.5 hour shifts per day, monday-friday) + rent +food. Another branch within the company has posted they are looking for someone to do what you do and has the hours you used to get, is it better to transfer, or try to get your hours back at your current branch? (especially when the other branch is about 1/3 the distance from where you live

Sounds like the man wrote this one. I encourage everyone to not dim themselves down for other donkeys.

'If your manager is concerned about something, you need to be concerned about it too'... OMG, slaves...

I would never say those 10 things to my boss

Lots of complaints here:

Pre) It doesn't damage your career. Worst case scenario, it would damage the current job you're in. You're not blacklisted forever if your current boss doesn't like you.

1) Eh, you shouldn't be lazy to ask your boss to do it for you, but it's not "damaging."

2) Fine, I agree.

3) But maybe it isn't a big deal. I'm getting the feeling here that you're the kind of boss who thinks EVERYTHING is a big deal.

4) That's an unusually extreme statement? What if you hired an incompetent moron? No matter what you say, it will NOT go smoothly!

5) That's not true. There are lots of people who are irreplaceable. I agree there will always be someone who could do your job, but if you live in Maine and the only person who could do your job lives in Wyoming, then yeah, you're screwed. Even if you managed to contact him and hired him, you'd have to pay him more than you're paying me.

6) I don't think anyone actually does this. You simply are padding up your list here.

7) If you're willing to match the offer, then why would he be first to be fired? You clearly think he is valuable enough to offer more money.

8) Well first off, you already used this point in statement # 3. Secondly, just because your manager has stupid priorities, doesn't mean you need to. I guess you're the sort of person who would do drugs just cause your friends were doing it.

9) That's the same thing, except your approach soothes the boss' ego.

10) But job descriptions SHOULD be comprehensive. Otherwise, they're useless. Why not write in the job description "be my bitch?" That seems like it would be satisfy the description for you fully.

You can make yourself more valuable to your boss. But he should compensate him for that. It sounds like you think he should just do it for free.

You're a joke of a boss. You sound like the kind of person who expects me to thank you for allowing me to work for you and expects me to work overtime for free.

I'll never return to the corporate world specifically because of articles like this and the people who will undoubtedly print it out and post it all over the office. Those people typically have no idea what it takes to do the jobs they are asking for, they contradict and belittle at every turn, they thrive on chaos and stress mislabeled as being "proactive" and they make subordinates miserable and overworked to ensure nobody catches on to their own incompetence.

I disagree with the general tone of this article. I think if people were to consider themselves to be more of a partner with their employers instad of subjects to a ruler, they would be better off. People need to understand their value and leverage it to get into the best position they can. Most bosses will toss employees aside in order to benefit the company. You should have the same attitude. If you don't value yourself, your boss isn't going to either.
