I've been working as a freelancer for several years and I know how hard it can sometimes be to choose a right place to work for. But once I managed to do it and do not regret. It was Freelancer careers company. Working for it I was always provided with orders and received the proper wage, as well. That's why, I think that it is rather useful experience to work there.

I agree, freelancing, telecommuting, outsourcing - these are the trends of 2012 and more years to come. For jobseekers, it will be more convenient for them to work at their own pace, place and time. For employers, this is a cost effective way of getting a job done. That's the reason freelancing sites are on the rise - like staff.com, its relatively new but is slowly getting known for its full time job availabilities.

What would a suitable rate be for this type of work? Would a word-rate be substainal comparative to a regular salary? Would a typical per word rate be? Or an article flat rate?

Freelancing is great, I've done it remotely for the last few years. The flexibility, sense of independence and variety is unbeatable. However, it requires much harder work and usually for less money than employment. Especially in the beginning, where you have to take on contracts that pay a lot less than minimum wages just to earn a rep. I took me about 3 months before I could make a living from it (and my living cost is very low).

Check out odesk, freelancer, vworker or http://www.quickjobdb.com. Be prepared to work hard and almost free for a month or two, in the long run, it's worth it.

Missing disclosure that this post was sponsored by Elance.com, an international online sweatshop.

And I would add that freelancing allows you to use your full potential, which is very challenging and rewarding!
