Great list, although it may be a little late to "start early", but be persistent and put some real work into getting a job. Also, rather than just applying online (which, by the way is what you will be told if you call or stop by) try asking who the person that receives the resumes is and try to talk to them personally. Ask if there are any open positions, and what he really wants to see on a resume. If there is an open position, tell that person that you want to apply and ask if they will look for your resume. Ask when you can follow up. Getting past the automation to a real person can be the most difficult part now days.
