10 Tips for Leaving Your Job Gracefully

Why?

If the now former employee is leaving for greener pastures then they already should have everything in line.

If the now former employee is being forced out the door, the employer shows no such courtesies to the former employee.

And as someone who has given ample notice and offered to train a replacement, and provide documentation it was all worthless. The new employee was hired with only 1 week before my departure date, the training materials were ignored, and I was called later without thought to my circumstances or new job with questions.

The current business environment is for the employer to be ruthless to their employees, but employees are supposed to take it and say thank you because they are grateful for a job. It is utter bunk.

Not only is it a good idea for an employee to offer to train their replacement, but they can also create a "how to" guide explaining the ins and outs of their position. While training may only last a few days, a tangible explanation of responsibilities and answers to common questions will provide the new hire something to reference down the road.
