I certainly understand your desire to retire, but I really wish you could have continued in the current day genre. I just can't get into the "old" cartoons. I much preferred the grown up children and grandchildren. I still read occasionally, but not on a regular basis.

Your cartoon family has always given healthy laughter to our home.

Today I was concerned about the message. I didn't laugh and want to share this day's cartoon because I felt it was an intrusion into Mom"s

boundaries. Family focus should be on appreciating each other rather than poking fun at Mom's underwear. Even the dog looked ashamed !!

From the childen's elementary school years, I've identified with so much of the Pattrson's daily life. We've paralleled now for decades, with kids, grandkids, aging parents, friends, challenges, jobs, menopause, divorce, etc.

I, too, miss the old format, but life is loss....and life goes on.

All the best.

They become like neighbors, don't they. The kids grow, succeed, fail, the parents make mistakes (and live through it), the kids get caught out and live through it, just like those

nice people next door with the three kids, the grandchildren--

and we all cherish grandpa, and remember Farley, and appreciate a cartoonist who isn't afraid of the reality of death, of honosexuality, of being betrayed, hurt, and sad.

The power of this comic strip is that it manages to balance the humor and the sadness much the way we all do. It ain't all Dagwood and Blondie out there, and this is it's strength.

I just would like to say that I will take the FBoW comics in any format I can have them. I caught on with Lynn' wonderful story lines about 18 years ago. I adored the comic strips for years, but my children really loved the animated cartoon showw/specials that were aired in the 80's and 90's.

In fact, here's a question:

Can we somehow purchase copies of the Halloween Special, (The Good for Nothing) or any of the other shows???

My kids are in their early and late teems and have worn out the copies we had from taping the specials on TV.

Please let us know how we can access these great shows that have important messages for our young people. (The halloween show was so great for our young son as he faced bullies and how to handle them while still keeping his self respect as a young boy growing into manhood)

Thanks for any help you can offer in telling us how to procure these videos.

And God Bless You Lynn....I can't wait to see your "re-new" episdoes!!

After several weeks of reading reruns I finally took the time to research and see what was up with my favorite strip...(well there IS Zits!) and am extremely sad to hear that I will not know what happens to the beloved characters I have read about daily for maybe 20? years. I do not like the rerun format. I grew older with these characters and they mirrored my life in so many ways......menopause, parents deaths...

I do not enjoy reading it now....

My favorite comic strip. I especially enjoyed the story line about the sheepdog. We had one and Lynn hit the nail on the head about them. Sorry to see it end. I am so glad that is starting all over again!!!!!

When I was a child my loved ones used to read the Sunday comics to me and when I was old enough to read them to myself it opened up an entirely new world. However, things grew rather mundane as the years passed. When I discovered Lynn Johnston's strip I really became absorbed in their family life and values. It all seemed to make sense as the story line and plots were relevant and it seemed to be reality rather than fantacy. I would say that it is by far the most well written and illustrated strip in today's world of comics. A job well done, Lynn. Thanks for all your efforts to bring to us, your readers, a truely sensible piece of artistic entertainment!
