On June 1st , General Motors announced that they intended to reduce their pension plan liabilities by 26 billion dollars. The proposed savings comes in the form of a revised pension plan that offers selected U.S. retirees the option of choosing a lump-sum payment offer, and other retired GM employees a continuing monthly pension plan payments. The website http://www.gmpensionbuyout.net offers a useful guide that outlines the new pension plan changes. Individuals affected by these changes are strongly encouraged to seek advice from a qualified financial advisor before making any changes to their plan before the July 20, 2012 deadline.
