Unfortunately, I do not see how this benefits the employee or retirees. He said (could also result in some benefits lost to workers over the long term,” says White House spokesperson Tony Fratto)"could" leaves this plan wide open, doesn't it?

Anything this guy approves is done with strings attached to big business. 8 years of stings and strings, the world will not be the same due to these self interest based decisions condoned by an out of touch president.

The PPA 2006 was not in effect long enough for many of the trusts to overcome the devistating previous problem that the IRS caused when they required long term benefits to be made based on short term gains. Now that the economy is in a downtern the muti-employer trusts that have run jointly these many past years can try and recover a bit with this current breathing room. Congress still needs to address the problem of penalizing good employers that make prompt payments into a penison plan and then get penalized if the plan, through no fault of the employer, becomes insolvent. This unfair act is a huge problem that should not be sholdered by muti-employer plans that have been well run for years.
