supposedly there is insurance for the injured worker. HA! The only people who get anything out of work comp are the lawyers and some doctors. The worker gets screwed. They push you until you find a way to survive, then punish you for it.

I THINK WE SHOULD FIRE ALL THE LAWYERS!!!!!!!!

Lots of people think everyone is trying to use the system.

Well guess what sometimes the system uses you!

My husband was laidoff due to downsizing but the real reason is he had a reaction against the chemicals in his job Effecting his lungs and has a permnant rash that he has had all over his body and was told by his Doctor that it is in his system and it will not go away. But he suffer through it because he needed his job.

Then it started to get real bad so they let him go.They kept people hired after him and because this is a right to work state he had no job security.

Not only that I hear people need to save, well I would like to see them save when working for enough money just to get by.

After 13 years with this country this is what happen.

He has became very depressed and had to get on medication and if he doesn't improve he might have to be hospitalized. He can't find work because none is available and his age of 61 doesn't help.

We had to cash in his 401K to pay off bills so we could exist.

By the time he did this he lost so much due to penalties and taxes if we would have tried to wait he would have lost it all.

We are now living from day to day and wondering if he will ever get a job.

In the mean time he has put in for early retirement for social security.

Still you have to wait and live off nothing after the severance

pay runs out and in trying to get unemployment it is the same waiting game and then they think they are doing you a favor even though you paid into it.

Where is the justice for the people who work all their lifes and saved and lost it to the big companies who we had to bail out.

WHERE IS THE BAIL OUT FOR US?

I have experienced some of what has been discussed, but what has been most detrimental to me on many interviews, is the amount of years of service in each company I have worked for. I am often told that I appear and act much younger than I am, so maybe interviewers are not certain about my age, but once my Resume goes under scrutiny, and it is determined how old I must be, I'm usually given the same response "we'll call you", and this never happens. I have noticed of late, that many companies don't even have the courtesy of sending you an acknowledgement letter. And yes, along with aging comes many health issues that creates obstacles and disabilities which enable many of us from keeping up with the younger generation and job demands. The government obviously does not realize the competition and descrimination older workers are faced with today ... we are expected to compete and work past what should be a normal age of retirement, since they keep pushing back the age one can receive Social Security Retirement Benefits. The irony of this is, many of my friend have died before been able to enjoy retirement or any benefits.

Age Discrimination does exist. Yes, there is a law against age discrimination...but try proving it. Even when you apply to jobs online many of the applications ask for your date of birth. Some employers disguise this request by asking you to provide information for their HR Department saying they do not use this info in their hiring considerations. Well then why ask it in the first place? Other employers ask for the dates you graduated from high school. It doesn't take any math skills to calculate ones age. I think we should all start complaining in writing to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and our State Legislators. After all, they have jobs...and we are paying for them!

I am 55 and working on a grant funded project that will not be renewed in July...so much for the stimulus package bringing more jobs to the sector. 5 months away and I've already begun the gnawing of "What If"".

Anyway, there is a great book out there titled "Surviving A Lay-Off" by Lita Epstein. Please, if you do nothing else to take care of your "self" during these times find a copy of this book. It is chalk full of realistic tips and moral support for an individual.

Also, applying for Social Security Disability or Supplemental Security Income is the RIGHT of every tax paying American citizen who has a debilitating chronic health problem. Yes, the powers that be may say no (several times most likely) However, they bank on applicants giving upduring the application process--Don't! In the long run applying usually pays off.

WHETHER YOU'RE ABLE TO WORK OR NOT HEALTHWISE ISN'T TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT. THEY KEEP PUSHING BACK THE AGE OF SOCIAL SECURITY. YOUR BODY SAYS ONE THING WHILE THE LAWS AND PROGRAM SAY SOMETHING ELSE. THE LAW DOESN'T TAKE INTO ACCOUNT YOUR PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES. IT IS MANDATED YOU WORK WHETHER YOU CAN OR NOT. THE JOBS AVAILABLE TO YOU ARE USUALLY MORE PHYSICALLY DEMANDING.

I am disabled and when I go for a job interview (which seems the interviewer could be my child) and they take one look at my disability and my age they basically throw me out the door. "I'll get back to you" doesn't cut it anymore. The depression does for a short while anyhow.

It is ilegal to discriminate in the USA based on age. I also consider it immoral especially for those under 65 who still have valid skills and are still in the prime of their lives.

Go see an attorney if you feel you have been discriminated against because of age.
