Target date funds are a good idea with awful execution. We started a company to turn the industry around, called Target Date Analytics.

I totally agree that there should be some regulation on this.

The allocations should tend to be more conservative than aggressive b/c most people that are choosing this are "non-sophisticated" and should be watched over in a "prudent man" fashion.

Is it better to do nothing for fear of hidden risks, or to try and do something that will help more than it hurts?
