Many companies are suspending their 401(k) match in an effort to improve their bottom line. But some employers still offer a generous contribution to retirement accounts. U.S. News asked BrightScope, an independent data analysis firm that launched the nation's first online 401(k) rating system in January, to sift through its data about 401(k) matches. I'VE ALWAYS SAID THAT THE SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE ARE NOT ONLY THOSE WHO PURSUED AND COMPLETED THEIR EDUCATION BUT ALSO HAD FORESIGHT INTO WHAT LAY AHEAD. UNFORTUNATELY I'M NOT ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE. I JUST DRIFTED THROUGH LIFE WITH NO DEFINITE PLAN AND HERE I AM, HOPING I CAN RETIRE AT 62 BUT KNOWING I REALLY CAN'T. I WAS MARRIED FOR 25 YEARS AND HAD 2 CHILDREN. I NOW I FIND MYSELF AS BEING AN UNSKILLED WORKER WHO MAY HAVE TO WORK AT LEAST 3 DAYS A WEEK FOR THE REMAINDER OF MY LIFE! WHAT A FUTURE TO LOOK FORWARD TO. POOR PLANNING TO SAY THE LEAST. THE ONE GOOD THING I HAVE GOING FOR ME IS THAT I WILL BE ABLE TO COLLECT THE OVERAGE OF MY EX-HUSBAND'S SOCIAL SECURITY BECAUSE I WAS MARRIED TO HIM OVER 10 YEARS. THAT MEANS THAT IF I'M DUE 1000 DOLLARS AND HE'S DUE 1300 DOLLARS, I WILL GET THE 300 DOLLARS, UPPING MY MONTHLY PAYMENT. I CAN DEFITELY LIVE WITH THAT BUT MY GREATEST FEAR IS THAT BECAUSE OF THE FAILING SYSTEM MAYBE THEY WILL CHANGE THAT LAW AND I WILL BE RETIRING AT 66. NOTHING'S FOR CERTAIN ANYMORE.
