i was self employed just bought our first home when i was injured at work. i thought i had good insurance but after paying my claim for one year the insurance found a doctor that said i "was disabled but not due to the injury at work. they denied my claim i tried to fight but no attorney would help unless i had 25 k . i lost my home lost my business lost my friends and family because of the nerve damage that provents me from doing 90% of what most people do on a daily routine. i applied for ssi and was told that because i have no doctor and no transportation that i have no case. how does one keep seeing doctors without insurance and no income. after four and a half years what gives a person hope to keep living, keep fighting, my american dream is over i have nothing left. i have no more tears to cry and no one cares anyway.i cant believe this is my country, my goverment. nobody cares unless they can make a profit.

My illness, hit me in 2005. I applied in 2007. My hearing was in July 2009. My lawyer said it well and my doctors notes and diagnosis. 7 months latter nothing yet. My parents are deceased. I have no one. In the meantime I lost my job and my home. I'm know homeless and live in my car. My lawyer and the court tell me it's in the post hearing phase and to call them next month and to hang on. It's been seven months. I'm done. I'm going to take a letter into my congressman. I can't afford the stamps. Not only do we have to suffer, but we have to beg.

If everyone would write to their local Senator and House of Representative, they can change the timeliness of SSA processing claims. Today they can take years, and they do, because the law doesn't state otherwise. Your Congressman and mine are elected officials. Vote them out if they don't do what we want. It's our only hope.

Yes, the system sucks. Live in the state of TN.I too got denied with breast cancer. Mastecomy and now I have to get a lawyer for what so they can get 25% when ever I get approv. Every time I call Social security they say to give them 120 days. My first denial was due to my mastecomy has not reoccured. Don't no living person want cancer to return but still disable to work. Having treatments for 1 year. Is that considered a disability.

How hard is to apply and about how long does it take to get approved with 100% permanet rating from the va. It had already been proven he has 100% and paper work to prove it.

My husband is 35 and was diagnosed 4 years ago with myotonic muscular dystrophy and is unable to work due to this dabilitating disease and we have been fighting for his dissability for over 4 years now and he just got notice of his hearing on sept 22. because of his age we have had problems getting his dissability.

Dear Representative,

My sister, Sheila XXXXX, lives New Jersey . She is 45 years old and is presently unable to work due to a multitude of medical conditions. Sheila has applied for Social Security Disability in Nov 2007 and has been told in the past due to her age she would be unlikely to receive benefits. It appears that Sheila's disability determination is based upon her age and not multiple medical physicians' opinions and her conditions.

Sheila was infected with HIV through her husband(ex) and diagnosed in 1997 and continued to work. In 2005, Sheila was diagnosed with severe Atherosclerosis. Due to this condition she has a left iliac and abdominal aortic stents with additional stenosis. Sheila has suffered multiple Transient Ischemic Attacks, TIAs/mini-strokes since 2004. She has severe neuropathy bilaterally in both hands and feet as well as a multitude of other medical conditions. Sheila continued to work until June of 2007.

August 2008 she was diagnosed with aggressive non-hormonal cancer in her left breast. Sheila underwent surgery and had lymph node removal in her left underarm. Post her surgery she underwent aggressive chemotherapy and radiation for approx. a year.

Due to her multiple medical conditions and medications it is difficult for Sheila to complete simple activities such as opening a jar and walking around the block. Sheila is easily fatigued and has other side effects that limit her daily activities. I have enclosed a copy of the letter prepared by Sheila's attorney. The letter is addressed to the Social Security Hearing Director and contains Sheila's detailed medical history and additional conditions. There are multiple physicians that state Sheila is unable to perform sustained work and is disabled. Sheila's presently takes the following medications for her medical conditions: Dilaudid, Hydromorphone, Oxycodone, Crestor, Plavix, Truvada, Reyataz, Flexeril, Omeprazole, Lexapro, Ativan.

Currently an on the record decision was not approved.

We would appreciate any assistance you could provide Sheila with the Social Security Disability process. Please feel free to contact me, XXX-XXX-XXXX

Sincerely,

Cheryl I.

Dear Hard Working Individual,

It is unfortunate these days that people like my sister who have worked since they were 18 and paid into the system have to fight for years to receive "YOUR" benefits that is IF you receive them. So, where is Obama? They have the same birth date, I wonder if that would help her or does she need to get another chronic and/or debilitating illness? God Help Us!!!

The best of luck to us all,

Cheryl I.
