I want to mention that we recently used www.CelebrateAHero.com for someone who was retiring from our company after 35 years It is a commemorative gift book service that honors the retiree by inviting co-workers to add pictures and sentiments to the book. Once everyone contributes using the website, the book is printed, The retiree had tears in his eyes when we gave him the book. Also good for birthdays, anniversaries and graduations. I just used it for my daughter's graduation.

I would like to add that www.caricatureking.com does great retirement caricatures that can include aspects of the person's time at the company and also what they will be doing in retirement.

The caricature can be placed ina frame and people sign/wee-wish on the mating. A great keepsake!

Great recommendations for retirement gifts! It's true the gift should be chosen based on the personality of the individual. A book I recently bought for a colleague was Bobby's Retirement Humor as he is an avid dog lover and has a strong send of humor http://www.bobbysretirementhumor.com/. The goal in purchasing gifts for any questions is that they will be memorable to the person. It's the thought that counts.

We recently had a co-worker retire at our retirement community, and as a gift we pulled photos from her years with the company, especially those showing her interacting with staff and residents. We placed the photos into a decorative wooden collage frame. Now she can look back at the photos and see all those people who truly cared about her. As a personal gift for the same person, I helped her create her own business cards for personal use which could then be professionally printed at an office supply store, and gave her an engraved business card holder.

Hand-written notes..should not only be given on the day of their retirement, it would be sweet to still send them something once in a while..

I believe that when someone retires, they want to hold onto as many memories as possible, and in doing so a Scrapbook would come very handy! If the person is more technologically advanced you may want to get them software that can be used to upload photos and other things into a virtual scrapbook. There are many programs available for the tech savvy retiree.

Another great idea for a person who is about to retire is information about retirement. Giving them tips on what their options are can be quite helpful and very convenient for them. A good place to refer them to is: www.GeriCareFinder.com where they can set-up a free account and start utilizing the Financial Calculators, as well as search for Retirement Communities or other care types in their area.
