"Thousands were are aware of the storm, but were told to late to leave the city. There were also residents that had no transportation and no way out of the city."

The responsibility to decide whether to leave a city facing a natural disaster is the responsibility of the individual not of the government. And if that means you need to walk out with your child or your elderly neighbor strapped to your back the so be it.

This comment is in response for Take Responsibility of Yourself from KY Resident of KY. Your comments about Hurricane Katrina are so incorrect. Thousands were are aware of the storm, but were told to late to leave the city. There were also residents that had no transportation and no way out of the city.

Dear "KY Resident". Pull your head-out of the sand!! We are the one of the richest countries in the world all supported by the backbone of the middle class working citizens. Those very citizens that now make up the millions of jobless. We are in a crisis situation like never before seen in this country's 234 year history. There is a whole new wave of home foreclosures coming as unemployment benefits run out and no new jobs are available. It is not that these people don't want to work... there is no work to be had. Look at how our country prospered in the years following Roosevelt's New Deal. America is Goverment by the people for the people. Sometimes, the people need to step in and work together to make a situation better. Everyone benefits from the unemployment rate being lower, not just those that are put to work. I pray for you that you continue to prosper and never have to suffer the loss of a job, or a spouse who needs long term care to the tune of $250 a day. These are things that can crush hard working citizens who have put in their 9 to 5, built up a modest savings, and dream of a comfortable retirement only to be slammed into a brick wall.

When are people going to start taking care of themselves??? Did it begin with the welfare system? Not sure, but it has gotten ridiculously out of hand! Can't feed your kids? WIC... Can't pay your mortgage? gov't bailout... Obese and "disabled?" SSI No health insurance? medical card. Where does it end? The American people are waiting to be taken care of. The younger generations have been raised that way. Very few people in America today have had to witness others make sacrifices just to survive. The most obvious display was Hurricane Katrina. Thousands of residents of New Orleans were told it would be a killer storm, chose to stay, and waited to be rescued. That is the American attitude in its simplest form! Now companies will be required to enroll employees in retirement accounts because workers lack the ambition to do so themselves??? Absolutely ridiculous! Americans need to take responsibility for themselves! - but never will if they are always taken care of.
