This article may be correct about needing more $$$ for retirement, but it is obvious that those who wrote it have not experienced the difficulties of finding a position. With todays economy companies are going to hire younger people and not the older more experienced worker. I have sent out over 150 resumes applying for positions and only received back 5 acknowledgements of receipt and 5 "thank you for applying but the position has been filled" letters. Age descrimination has been going on for a long time, and it is not going to stop now especially in this economy. The US government and the individual states are going to see an influx of people applying for welfare benefits because they can not afford to live on Social Security when their retirement $$ runs out. This country like many others around the world are facing extreme financial difficulties. When the time comes to pay back all the borrowed $$ where it it coming from? Certainly not the older retired generation, and raising taxes will not go well with the people struggling to make ends meet. I believe that people reading this "THOUGHT" will live to see a global economic crash. That is when everything will be worth nothing.

This is a great article and covers some of the information I am trying to deliver to my clients. I work with those at mid-life and beyond (mostly baby boomers) who are transitioning to the next chapter in their lives and want to find something meaningful and productive to do in the years formerly known as retirement. Baby boomers could possibly live as long in those years as they worked. I worked for 35 years in the corporate world until given an early (I thought) retirement/layoff. I re-educated myself and opened my own business to help those who are expiencing the same things I went through. I completely expect to live another 35 years and know that I will remain healthier, happier and have more money if I stay engaged in doing something I feel passionate about.

I agree that Seniors will need a job to finance their retirement needs. The cost of medicines and long-term or nursing home are going up high. With this being said, I am glad that there are a lot of industries deciding to try to employ and hire older workers. I think if seniors are still on their good health, they can do good, plus their years of knowledge sans their body condition, of course, you can't expect them to do jobs that will require physical activities.

My plan is to have multiple streams of income , even though each individual stream might be small, combined they make a good income. There are allot of things people can do from selling things to growing vegetables, raising chickens selling eggs, computer online work, writing, growing medical marijuana, you know, your every day normal activities. Hey whatever works. But FIRST I have to have a place where those streams not only derive, but arrive. That is a home. A great place for retirement community listings is 55places.com. It simple to use and you can search those states listed. http://www.55places.com
