Personally I think the quality of life in the states is terrible. After living in Europe for the past few years, I am now able to see how our nation has deteriorated to such a point that I want out. Is there anything positive about living here? If so, I sure cant find it. I'll be heading back to Europe as soon as possible. Hopefully this country will pull its act together before its too late.

I believe she meant to say: "The typos make the article LOSE credibility."

I would like to forward this article to several people I know would be interested, but it contains too many typos -it just will not make a good impression. The typos make the article loose credibility.

It says it all. We pilot along like "Sheeple" here in the US. Believe we are living the "American Dream" when in fact it is really more of a nightmare. Becoming self aware is very powerful. Stop. Look around you. Look at your finances. How much you spend on Cars(actually look at how much you lose thats even more scary), houses, clothes etc. Are you REALLY happy? We live in an excessive nation, clearly do not know how to live within our means and with obesity at an all time, we even over eat. More More MORE!!!!. This simply will not work for me.

I am on course to exit the US by the end of this year. I am late 40's. In great shape both mentally and physically. I will find a part time job where I am going to cover costs and this way avoid touching my principle. I have sold financial plan laid out. I am not a high powered exec. I am a middle class guy probably just like you that realizes now that when retirement comes, I do not want to worry to death like everybody else does about running out of money to survive. I see it now with colleagues and some friends. Sad to watch people become gripped and trapped in this medical garbage. People are saving now to spend it all on sustaining their health later. So they pound away at work. work 12 hours a day. Their health eroding slowly. Why not spend time and eat right, exercise now? Use the money to live life not cough it up to a silly doctor later.

We have been retired for 10 years now. I was 57 at the time and we made a decision to retire early on less. I was on the edge of being a workaholic. Now, I am involved in our church activities, have a very involved hobby and cannot even imagine how I had time to go to work.

We spend our winters in south Texas to avoid the northern winter. We have the best of both worlds here, modern medicine, North American responsiveness and comfortable culture. We find that we do not need all thethings that we had and thought we needed while working.

I'm afraid that the plumber experience would not be our cup of tea, bbut the point is a good one, try out several options, thinnk seriously about what your needs are, and find your ideal retirement.

I'm still in my 40s and very open to the idea of spending part of my life or maybe the end of my life in another country. From conversations I've had with people older than myself, the biggest regret is I hear is about what they DIDN'T do in their life, not what they did. It is always LATER than you think, so just go for it!
