Responding to Joke by MF of MA ... You asked why you should sacrifice your hard earned dollars for someone else?

Let's ask another question: why should a young man or woman head off to Iraq or Afghanistan - if we use your logic - to sacrifice for YOU?

Why should a fireman rush into a burning building to save someone he doesn't even know?

We all do a great deal for each other in our modern society. This is the meaning of community. We're proud of your success; we applaud it. Yet we ask that you give up a BIT of your wonderful wealth to help those who aren't as gifted as you.

This is also a form of compassion. Compassion cannot exist in a world of selfishness. Hope you thank those today who have died or shed their blood so you might make your MILLIONS!

We will pay in the loss of social security or we will pay to keep it. Either way we will pay. Those of us who have paid into SS for our whole working lives are at risk of loosing it completely if a change does not occur soon. The idea of raising taxes for SS is not a bad one if it means we keep what we paid into all these years. I am not in favor of taxing the rich to help the poor, but I am in favor of making sure those who work and pay in SS get to keep it.

Why should those who make more pay for someone else? It amazes me how people want to take someone elses money....give me a break. If you earn it...you deserve to keep it. I spent 20 years sacrificing to get to where I am at. Why should I pay for someone else who did not work as hard as me?

A sure fire way to solve all these problems is using the system favored by Wall Street and many politicians like John Kyle. Privatize the existing system so Wall Street can steal the money. Second, cancel Social Security starting in 2015 which eliminates the payroll taxes and eliminates projected future payout.

The rich will be mighty happy. The poor? Well these are just lazy ignoble people who shouldn't be carried on the backs of the rich. Tell them "you're on your own". No deficits, no spending for the needy and those who made payments all of their working lives to buy Social Security insurance. Oh, Medicare, cancel that as well as the rich don't need this either.

Do I sound cynical. You bet! I put off collecting my SSA benefits until 70 which is in a couple of months so I might be able to make ends meet. My home has been paid off since 1991. Invested in stocks which are now worthless. Assets fell dramatically so now I'll have to continue working till I'm 80 or 85. Just think how much money would be available for the rich if they found a way to get their political appointees (we think they are elected) to transfer all of this remaining wealth to the rich and powerful who own this country.

This is not radical protest but rather speaking out loud about the hidden truths. We're in trouble in this country now that it's been sold to the highest bidders.

In 1983, when I made only $17,000 per year, I wanted the government to raise the payroll tax even more than they did rather than raise the retirement age. I have exactly the same position today. While I am not averse to raising the cap so that the rich will pay more, I also believe that those of us with modest incomes should be willing to accept a small increase in the payroll tax, if necessary, to keep benefits as they are. In other words, we should be willing to pay for the benefits that we want.
