Yes, it's not appropriate to have Fidelity, Trowe or Principal come and tell you their funds are 'just great'. You need to do some due diligence. Also if you age or risk based funds are made up of funds from one provider, FAIL!

get a good advisor, they can easily make up for the .25 percent they cost.
