The numbers on ESOPs are way, way off. There are about 10,500 ESOPs covering about 12.7 million participants. You may be looking just at IRS determination letters for the year, but they had a hold on issuing these for quite a while and, even in a normal year, their reporting system for them is way, way off. The DOL provide more accurate data, on which our numbers are based.
