I think the social security and medicare cards should be laminated or plasticized maybe with picture id and that way one might feel what they pay in is being better protected.

And people should be able to opt online for a yearly statement to be mailed out (maybe).?

Social Security should not be part of the deficit reduction talks. There should be no cuts to Soc Sec at this time. Soc Sec has had an annual surplus every year from 1982 to 2012. Cutting benefits at this time will increase the Soc Sec surplus, providing more money for our crooked politicians to spend. Our greedy, selfish politicians will say that the benefit cut is to strengthen Soc Sec, but the real reason is to produce more money for their wasteful spending. Soc Sec was robbed to pay for the Bush wars and tax cuts for the rich. The government should put a tax on public retirement systems to pay for the money stolen from Soc Sec.

Maybe if they took off all the illegal immigrants who are being given our social security and get them off our medicaid system , we wouldn't have a problem with our money running out.Let the democrats in Washington pay all these illegals out of there own pockets and maybe they would make them do things the way all us US born citizens had to do it. And have the government pay back our money they left IOU's for all the money they stole from our SS.

I am a disabled vet and I live check to check . Even my family has to live off food stamps . I know vets who are worse off than me.

The unfortunate reality of the above analysis is that the assets of the SS Trust Fund holds are U.S. Treasury Securities which will have to be repaid to fund benefit payments. Given that the we are currently running a $1 trillion deficit the likelihood that the U.S. is going repay the debt to fund payments to beneficiaries is "ZERO". In fact for every dollar that the U.S. government spends they borrow 47 cents. The sad truth is that our entitlement programs are a joke, and should be privatized as soon as possible. Bottom line when planning for retirement do not assume that you will receive any benefit from either Social Security or Medicare. Both programs are a total train wreck.

The US is like a poor person trying to be a BIG SHOT,,spending money, and doing things to impress people , and know good and well they can't pay for...then go home and can't pay the rent,or buy food for their family.......we(the US) take care of every on e but our own, giving EVERYONE FROM EVERYWHERE THE AMERICAN DREAM, AND LETTING US LIVE IN A NIGHTMEAR...this is so wrong,I get sick everytime I think about how wrong ,the people we trusted to work for us,have betrayed us,and have shown they only care about themselves...and as for SS being an intitlement, being a POLITICIAN is an entitlement because they are taking from us ,and giving nothing in return..they give themselves raises, and have the best of health care, and are taken care of for the rest of their lives on the backs of the people they are screwing royally....ss did not get a raise for 2 years, but congress did, they do not like the president so they spend all their time conspiring against him instead of doing their jobs and working for the people that put them there;............we need to clean house in washington..may GOD have mercy on us............

Congress and the Senate are not representing "We the People". Why do they vote for a raise for themselves and turn around and cut benifits of our elderly and minimum wage earners. They think "We the People" means only special people from some long ago secret society are taken care of while they let the elderly and the poor waste away.

S.S is not an Entitlement, I have paid into it my whole life and my Employer has matched what I have Contributed! So It is NOT a FREE Benefit!!!!!!Let the Government Pay back what they took out of S.S and it would be a little more Secure!!
