Financial Outlook Worsens for Social Security, Medicare

" All people in government that works should pay taxes, medicare and social security should be mandatory for them." Also I think they should be on the same health care that we are, Obama care they passed it, so it should be good enough for them also.

Would be nice to get the auto raises at the same % rate as congress get each year. IF this happen I don't think we would ever have to worry about medicare or social security running out!

Both my father who died in 1985 and my grandfather who died in 1966 told myself and my brothers to not count on social security at retirement time. My grandfather lived on his military pension with no financial problems after giving up more than 50 years of his life to the Air Force and retired as a full bird. My father was a civilian employee for the Air Force and took his retirement early after the government informed all of the employees who were part of a private pension fund that was more than liquid enough to afford payout to all the retirees who had earned their right to the pension. They paid into it and no one administering the fund tried to put any of those funds into a general fund like Uncle Sam has done with social security funds. Shows what honesty does versus thievery. As one of those poor unfortunate bastards who has worked all of his life and donated my over a quarter of a million dollars to the fund I feel like I just got screwed by the government. Obamacare is NOT a fix either.

To you old farts that think Obamacare will help you, think about this - Have you ever had to deal with the VA outside of being a hospital patient? Takes a minimum of 30 days to get an appointment and then don't eveer think you'll get results from a test fast or that that will get you in to see the proper specialist and faster. Your only best hope is that your situation needs a specialist that is not available at the VA and you get sent to a hospital not run by the government. Socialized medicine has been proven time and again to defeat the bottom line of affordable and effective health care. I have lived overseas and found the same quality of health care we expect from our medical establishment here at home and at about 1/40th the cost - the difference there is that the governments there don't allow the medical establishment, the drug companies, nor the insurance companies to gouge the public like they are allowed to here.

Seems to me that the government, regardless of who is president needs to spend its(our) money and time on trying to fix the problem instead of trying to be one of the perpetrators.

The one main ingredient needed to do this is politicians(of all levels) with cajones big enough to stand up and be honest about the problem and what is needed to fix it. The American public is truly getting tired of the BS and wants to see some fixes and solutions.

They do, and it is. You should spend more time reading, rather than whining.

i believe everyone should pay their way. All people in government that works should pay taxes, social security should be mandatory for them. We are working our nails to the ground and for what. For minimum wages. That for when we retired we will not have this benefit that so graciously we have been paying all of our working lives. Its this what we call our government. However, this problem doesnt come from this present government it has been growing from many years back. It does not matter who is in the house Democrats or Republicans they do not pay taxes. They have a great life when they retired. and us we will be living under a bridge, in a motor home, in a park on top of some garbage bags. That is what I see if this goverment in USA does not correct this problem. A simple law can be written lets take it from our Independence Bill. We the people (all in one) It did not said you the color, white, yellow or tan but we the people should be able to pay taxes we all live in this beautiful country where people are forgetting that we all get old and there is a need for independence and caring of our old people. Thanks. I hope it may sense. I will be retiring soon and I am very scare of how I am going to survive my old age. :(

If you want to fix Social Security, or as I say social insecurity, is to put all the idoits in Washington, D.C. on social security and make them pay into it too. I wonder how many people get more out of social security then they ever paid into it? I think that managing such a large institution for less than 1% is commendable, but congrees needs to act now and quite delaying it until the next set of buffoons enter the congressional scene. How about collecting some taxes from the 50% of people who in this country do not pay taxes, or at least get more in benefits then they pay into the system. Therefore half of our country is a negative drain on our society and financial way of living. How about stop paying for illegal immigrants benefits and for schooling and welfare. I wonder how much that costs our society? I betthe number would be staggering. Look at California it is $16 Billion in the hole. Does the word entitlement ever come to mind. We live in a country where a majority feel entitled to being taken care of. What ever happened to first take care of yourself, then have a family when you can support them not expect other hard working people to continue to support your stupid decisions to have more kids when you can hardly afford to support yourself rather than 4-6 mouths to feed. Stop the handouts, and transition to a hand up policy. It is like the ole cliche' - Teach a man to fish rather than just give him a fish. Hey you want some freebies from the governemnt then you need to work for it, maybe clean the streets, parks, remove trash from a vacant lot, paint some public offices and buildings, or something that might be of benefit to the rest of us paying to allow you a handout. Like my dad taught me: No Work, No Pay!!

Those of us ready to retire have done nothing wrong. We have paid our taxes, our employers have paid taxes and yet the government continues to mismanage those funds held in trust and used them for purposes not intended. We would have fired a personal financial planner that failed to invest our funds to ensure the benefits would be there at retirement. If the government can "bail-out" financial institutions for making bad decisions then it's time to "bail-out" our valued senior citizens who have worked hard and believed in the promise of supplemental retirement and health benefits once they retired. Billions have been thrown away and yet the lavish spending by our government continues. It's time to stop putting the burden on the hard working middle class taxpayers and demand that the government cut spending. All true Americans should be ashamed if we continue to look the other way and support those we elected to serve us as our voice in Washington that continue to turn a deaf ear to those who have made their contribution to help make this country great.

It's all a matter of TRUST. Do you trust the "government" (your duly elected officials) to be honest & "fiscally" responsible? If you do... don't worry; be happy! If you don't... "build your 'arch' quickly; make it waterproof!!!
