Early retirees ages 55 - 64 are heavily involved in volunteer activities, attending lifelong learning classes, exercising and going to the gym, attending meetings, programs, and concerts in the area, taking part in church activities, traveling both domestically and abroad, and lending a hand with the grandchildren. I wonder if the region of the country might also make a difference - my contemporaries and I live in southern California where the weather doesn't usually factor in to your activities.

A missing statistic is the time it takes getting healthcare: waiting in doctors offices, getting prescriptions filled, haggling with insurance companies, seeking second opinions, having and recovering from surgeries etc.
