Retirees Fastest-Growing Users of Social Networks

Roger, I actually know A LOT of retirees who use LinkedIn...the reason is, not everyone "just retires and waits for social security to come every month"...a lot of people retire from their careers and then sometimes pick up a side business when they retire. For example, my father-in-law, who was a Nurse Anesthetist most of his life, is retired, around 65 y.o. and has had 2 post-retirement careers, one as a realtor and the other selling Ambit Energy. He's used LinkedIn to network for both his post-retirement careers.

Whilst I can certainly imagine retired people using Facebook etc., I cannot for a moment imagine why any more than a very small fraction of them would want to use LinkedIn. LinkedIn is basically a PROFESSIONAL networking site as distinct from a SOCIAL networking site. It is designed for people to display their professional careers and achievements and to find new jobs, new clients and new customers. It is therefore hard to imagine why retired people would want to use it.
