I am surprised that no one, and I mean no one in gov. or in the press, ever talks about WEP (Windfall Elimination Provision) or GPO ((Government Pension Offset) that apply to local, state and federal retirees who had contributed to Soc. Sec. before joining government service.

I found out at the age of 65 that my 40 quarters of Soc. Sec. contributions I made before joining the Foreign Service are forfeited and that my wife, even as a widower, cannot collect my contributions to the plan due to GPO.

When I asked Soc. Sec. about my wife's 8 quarters of contributions, expecting a refund, we were told her contributions "stay in the Soc. Sec. pool," meaning she forfeits it.

When David Rockefeller was asked what does he do with his Soc. Sec, check, he cackled and said he uses it for "Tip money." And to think Romney is going to collect a social security check as well.

We recently moved overseas.

Im on Disability and my future Wife is on S.S.I. and we plan on getting marryed in Oct this year. If we get marryed I know she might lose her S.S.I. and it will go by my Disability Payment. She on Disability through S.S.I.. Can she file for Disability and get the same Benifit like me. She 56 years old and Im 58 years old. Lets say that Im getting $1400 per month and Let say she get $700 per month. How much will she lose?
