Attention! What is autism? Autism (sometimes called “classical autism”) is the most common condition in a group of developmental disorders known as the autism spectrum disorders (ASDs). Autism is characterized by three distinctive behaviors. Autistic children have difficulties with social interaction, display problems with verbal and nonverbal communication, and exhibit repetitive behaviors or narrow, obsessive interests. Autistic children may have repeated body movements such as rocking or hand flapping. Some of the different types of autism include: Autistic disorder. This is what most people think of when they hear the word "autism." It refers to problems with social interactions, communication, and imaginative play in children younger than 3 years. Asperger’s syndrome. These children don't have a problem with language -- in fact, they tend to score in the average or above-average range on intelligence tests. But they have the same social problems and limited scope of interests as children with autistic disorder. Pervasive developmental disorder or PDD -- also known as a typical autism. This is a kind of catchall category for children who have some autistic problems but who don't fit into other categories. Rett's disorder. Known to occur only in girls, Rett's children begin to develop normally. Then they begin to lose their communication and social skills. Beginning at the age of 1 to 4 years, repetitive hand movements replace purposeful use of the hands.

Childhood disintegrative disorder. These children develop normally for at least two years, and then lose some or most of their communication and social skills.

Is there a cure for autism?. Many “treatments” have surfaced since the disorder has grown there a cure for autism? Unfortunately, experts have been unable thus far to come up more visible in the mainstream press, but reputable doctors have yet to agree on any that will reverse the diagnosis. But there's hope: Scientists are hard at work every day finding a solution for this growing problem.

How can autistic children communicate? About a third to a half of individuals with autism do not develop enough natural speech to meet their daily communication needs Differences in communication may be present from the first year of life, and may include delayed onset of babbling, unusual gestures, diminished responsiveness, and the desynchronization of vocal patterns with the caregiver. In the second and third years, autistic children have less frequent and less diverse babbling, consonants, words, and word combinations; their gestures are less often integrated with words. Autistic children are less likely to make requests or share experiences, and are more likely to simply repeat others' words echolalia or reverse pronouns.

Mechanism. Despite extensive investigation, how autism occurs is not well understood. Its mechanism can be divided into two areas: the pathotphyology of brain structures and processes associated with autism, and the neuropsychological linkages between brain structures and behaviors.

Did you know? Autism tends to run in families which means it could have been passed on from their ancestors. Autistic children make little contact or no contact. Children don’t “outgrow” autism. Autistic children give other people they live with stress. ADHD is like autism. Autism is also called a spectrum disorder. Children with autism fail to make friends at their on age. Children with autism fail to respond to their names. Lack of interest in peer relationships. Every 20 minutes a new case of autism is diagnosed. Boys are four times more than girls. All autistic children have behavior challenges. Is Autism a brain disorder? Autism spectrum disorder gets 1 out of 150 children in the United States.

What are the myths about autism? All autistic children look alike. Individuals with autism never make eye contact; they do not look at you. Individuals with autism don't speak. Autism can be outgrown. Individuals with autism can't learn. Individuals with autism do not want friends. Individuals with autism do not relate to peers/adults. Individuals with autism could talk if they wanted to. Individuals with autism can't smile. Individuals with autism don't notice others and don't pick up cues from adults. When a person with autism does not respond to a question/direction to which he has shown a previous correct response, he is being stubborn/non-compliant obnoxious.. But, if you hardly even talk on it you won’t get autism or a tumor. An I-pod can also cause autism because of the loud music volume, if you do the same with cell phones you are likely to get autism if you don’t do the same as you do with cell phones you will likely not get autism or a tumor. I-Pods can give you a tumor or autism.

The story I read was Rules by Cynthia Lord and it’s a very good book! I loved it but, it could of had more pages for like a afterword or something. This is the picture of the author. Here is something she said “After college, I got married and became a teacher. I taught first-grade, sixth-grade, and even in a one-room schoolhouse. In those years, I wrote curriculums for educational publishers.”
