Gary Locke not a good Trader. Every time he made a state visit as WA Govenor to the East, we boxed up and sold one Eastern Washington sawmill to China.
He may have an excellent relationship with China. Let's talk about his relationship with the taxpayer. What are you willing to give up in his trading?

As a longtime resident of Washington I am very pleased with the potential of Gary Locke as Commerce Secretary. He was a fair, tough-minded and industrious governor. I believe that with his intelligence, trade experience, and not inconsequentially, beautiful family he will excell in this post and make the Commerce Department a relevant and effective player in the restoration of the US as a viable and honorable trading partner around the world. And Kim, if you don't understand the funding mechanisms utilized for Safeco & Qwest Fields, please refrain from spouting misinformed generalities.

Locke has been connected to illegal finance/donations to his campaign as Gov. of WA. thru Chinese and Tibetian contacts.
The "liberal press" is always too willing to give a democrat a "free pass" on scrutiny, and go after republicans, when ever the two sides present themselves, for "vetting".
This is poor journalism to say he is "squeaky clean"
He is not.

I will admit that I'm a bit weary of any candidate yet to be confirmed for any post; however, I really think this is a good nomination. I don't think he should be bothered that he is actually the third choice, it only helps us appreciate that Obama is clearly going with someone that is actually suited for the job. I never understood the Judd pick though. Somehow, this might do wonderful for US and China relations. They do seem to be our bank nowadays. Can't hurt to trade more with them.

The question occurs to me to be why Obama did not go this way to begin with, it seems so obviously appropriate. The Judd Greg choice and Bill Richardson were really dopey. If Obama had started with Locke he would not have squandered so much momentum. What the heck, all's well that ends well!

I still live in WA and think that Locke was an excellant governor. Leaders sometimes have to take an unpopular postion and educate the public. He has done that. He's very intelligent and very ethical. The President made a good choice.
