Some say that it was discovered in GaGa's Record Label's headquarters.

Can you imagine? the Tax payers paying for news media and the Government telling them what to print and what not to Print? This is JUST WRONG!!

Think about the trees! Don't bail out the newspapers! Stop being a caveperson, and get your news online. It's free, and very earth friendly.

For years the left has been saying that claims that the mainstream media has a liberal bias are unfounded and nothing more than right wing hysteria. If so, then why are they so desperate to keep them afloat? This proposal reveals that the Democrats also believe in the major newspapers are mostly biased left. Along with the "Fairness Doctrine", this represents an attempt to have Democratic Party control over the media. Outrageous.

Propaganda just like communist countries. We're on our way

Inane. Who could trust journalism produced from a source that would be beholding to the Government? The newspaper would merely become a propaganda tool of those in power.

Additionally, few people read the newspaper anymore...largely because of the growing web resources. Why attempt to save a creation of an earlier era.. let this dinosaur fade away.

Bailouts of all kinds are out of control right now. The federal government bailed out the financial industry, and now everyone who is running a failing business wants help. Newspapers are not failing because of the economy, they are failing because very few people buy their papers. Case in point I did not read the orginal story in the paper, i read it online. i watch the news at home on TV. Newspapers are a dying industry. So is buggy manufacturing. let the industry die.

corp[orations are kind of strapped, and have more difficulty lobbying agains tthe average citizen's interests/

How about having a special 'Lobbyist Tax', so we can better subsidize those who lobby against our interests

We're not enslaved enough

That's all newspapers really print

pro-glabalization

pro-immigration

the realities of which are always 'blacked out', H-1b is a perfect example

Whay the heck shoulkd we pay for this?

I disagree with bailing out businesses. We have bankruptcy laws that should handle that job. There are all sorts of reasons for papers being in trouble. Many have gone heavily in debt borrowing to buy multimillion dollar presses and buildings (largely to print color). These hard assets take a long time to pay for. Business can turn down very rapidly. You can see the issue. I think that the niche for a local paper is to be a LOCAL paper. Tend to local and state news and do it better than it can be done in any other way. Print news not opinion and maintain independent objectivity without trying to change the world. Go into bankruptcy if you have to get past heavy debt and publish using someone else's press.

Do you suppose that the heavily unionized industry that we have today will follow that recipe? Doubtful. Will publishers climb off J.P. Zenger's white horse? Maybe. Will the Govt. step in and come to their rescue? Possibly, but if it does, we lose something that rests at the heart of our nation. We lose a free press, and no matter how bad you feel about the press, it is free and independent and until now, safe from the govt.
