in federal court with Houston-based Spectra Energy, I can confirm that the power of eminent domain in the hands of government — which is transferred to a business — creates a sense of entitlement; and it creates an atmosphere ripe for abuse.
To suggest that big government is the solution to citizens' challenges is naive. An informed and engaged citizenry is necessary to put pressure on government and business.
We are a group of property owners who are doing just that. One of our goals is to share information with fellow property owners who are involved in property rights issue. Our website has begun to draw inquiries from Massachusetts to Oklahoma from folks facing similar challenges.

None of the stories I read indicated Ms. Sotomayor's record as far as being overturned on appeal. I have heard--rumor only--that she's very vulnerable on this front...

whether Sotomayor is sufficiently "pro-business" in disputes that a business might have with the government, but rather whether she is sufficiently "pro-people" in disputes WE might have with corporate creep overtaking every aspect of American life (which is currently the ongoing trend.)
I'm gonna trust Obama on this.

While ars of IN says that the nominees are eventually approved, he obviously forgets that one of the inventers of "borking" is now the VP and heavily involved in forcing this choice through. Right now the only negative I know about Sotomayor is that she is favored by the ruling socialists. That alone is a little scary.

What a joke all this buzz about the next Supreme Court nominee.
The bottom line is any time there's a Republican in office, he picks his conservative judges. Any time there's a Democrat in office, he picks his liberal judges. So we have all this stupid debate every time a new Supreme Court nominee is presented. And after Congress goes through their diddly-do show, and all the talk-radio blowhards have their say, and all the conservative or liberal congressman and women put on their show, the nominee is approved. It's always been this way, and it will always be this way. And our great country always seems to survive it all. But let the show begin again.

This dashes the hope of the Nation that Sotomayor might tip the balance on the regrettable Kelo decision. Big, politically connected businesses will continue to buy the government's help in trammpling smaller, entrepreneurial competition, abetted by the United States Supreme Court.
