On the other hand, for the perspectives of the American and Canadian bloggers and journalists who actually LIVE in Mexico, and are possibly more able to give honest, on-the-ground reports about what is going on there, I invite readers to also check out http://www.TheTruthAboutMexico.com . Y'know, before making any travel plans.

In the Middle East, Iran supplies weapons to the bad guys in Iraq.

Over here the U.S. supplies weapons to the bad guys in Mexico.

It's a very small world after all, isn't it?

If you are worried about traveling in Mexico, consider the Australia alternative. We just got back from 3 greta weeks there, with great weather and lots to do at reasonable prices with the US dollar so high against the Aussie Dollar. Besides airfares have been the best there for years and should get even better when competition increases this spring. Summer there is very hot, so consider the other 3 seasons there. It's as scenic as Mexico, Aussies are quite friendly and chatty, and they all spreak a form of English that is pretty understandable most of the time. Food is pretty much what you would find in California.

I just got back from a month in Cabo. I think that area is completely different from the rest of Mexico and is still a great place to retire. It is really an island that is separated from the rest of Mexico, very gringo friendly, and has low crime rate. The medical facilities there are excellent. The problem in Cabo has always been the high prices but we found this time that, because of the devalued peso, from 10/1 to 15/1, that prices were more than reasonable. The weather was great and the fishing was too. I do not know if there is a better place in the world to retire.

Mexico is not a safe vacation choice period! 32% of all non natural deaths of U.S. citizens outside this country occur in Mexico. Many of these deaths are a direct result of poor or non existant safety standards inside of the resorts. To read tragic Mexico vacation DEATH stories, many written by heartbroken family members as well as personal stories written by victims that "survived" their Mexico vacation go to:
