Practice on coins and other textured objects before you head out. Place the paper over the coin and rub over the coin with the side of a crayon. You can do rubbings on just about any surface as long as you are careful not to get crayon on the object. Cities are full of interesting surfaces. Leaves and bark can be used. Different paving surfaces. Even most rooms have different surfaces that can be used. The bottom of pots often have logos. Old tools have fascinating designs and patterns.

Designate an area and see how many interesting surfaces you can find. Create a collage of different surfaces. Use a page from a coloring book and add texture to the picture.

Bike rides, outdoor walks/hiking, picnicking and movies from the local library are my famliy's entertainments during the budget crunch.

We like to split a giant sub sandwich and go see the ducks!
