Why would a list include so many dogs who require grooming,as pets for a population that includes many living on fixed incomes! Toy Fox Terriers need no maintenance but love. You also missed (or your reference source missed) the Manchester,MinPin, and rat terrier to name just three. Every breed has a breed rescue, and it is the senior dogs who need the homes. Pets keep your blood pressure down - Adopt don't shop.

West Highland Terriers was not mentioned as a small dog option and they are fantastic dogs. They only weigh 15 pounds full grown and they are super smart and easy to train. We just got one this year and it has been the best dog we've owned.

My kids have 4 feet, they're happy to see me no matter how long I've been gone (sometimes, when I'm having a bad day, I just go outside and stand for a minute or two then come back in, just to get a warm and loving welcome :), and I don't have to pay for their college education. Peace. Love. Adopt! Woof! ~Lisa http://www.BarkTalk.com

My husband and I acquired a rescue dog almost 20 years ago. She became my husband's best friend and companion. I too fell in love with her. Unfortunately, we had to put her down at the age of 17. We've been unable to get another dog because of our beloved Freeway. Our daughter, however, had an outdoor cat she could not take with her when she moved, so we are now the owners of her.

The cat is not a dog and a more quiet companion than Freeway. She is loads of fun and it is very easy to take care of her. I am convinced that without a pet in this house, we would be lost! I fully agree that pet ownership, especially adoption from a shelter is the perfect way to express and received unconditional love.
