Don't know about dogs, but loving and petting a cat definitely lowers the blood pressure. There is something about them that is very relaxing - maybe it's the purring when they are content - it must rub off on humans!

Gee - hadn't thought it it that way. I rather spend money I can spare (and I do that) by giving to the food bank, homeless shelter etc. I have friends that have pets, and friends that don't. I can't say I like one group any better or worse than the other.

I totally agree with this article I have Sparky a mix terrier who keeps me going. I am disabled and just getting out there and walking him can be challenging but it improves my mood and keeps from getting to down with my situation. And to the person who said just read the Bible. I do and my church lets me bring him to church when I volunteer there. I also give back to the community by taking him in to visit nursing homes and he has taught so many kids not to fear dogs . Angels come in many forms why not a pet?

Very interesting! One group is selfish and the other uselfish. Check your relatives, friends and acquaintances. Do you like the ones with pets better or worse than the ones without pets?

I don't think we need to look to the "Asian Culture-" if Americans would just read their Bibles they would know that God Almighty directs them to take care of their parents. We are a Judeo-Christian culture; just follow the rules.

Its the creepy and confused culture in US cities that causes all these issues in adults.

The Asian systems takes care of the entire family. Working class of the family takes care of the retired elders, who stay with them. The children are benefited by living with their grandparents rather than spending lousy time with babysitter. The next generation learns the tradition and values from the previous generation.

If you see an asian much smarter and cultured than you, now you know why.

First of all, we are now seniors. Second of all, we have had both dogs and cats all our life, and we love them both equally.

However, we find it very strange that the author of this article did not show one cat in the slide show offered for pets for seniors.

Cats definitely need so much less work and attention than dogs, and can be equally as loving. You may not be able to walk them, but they will snuggle up and provide companionship to a senior who needs an animals' love.

I don't know why cats seem to be the "persona non grata" these days, but I will personally stand up for them as affectionate, intelligent, and quite personable little creatures.

They are perfect pets for seniors.

Let's give a break to our lovable cat friends.
