And be sure your family knows about any prepaid funeral expenses so the funeral home doesn't bill twice.
I drove an old lady to a funeral home several years before she croaked, and I vaguely recalled that the purpose was to prepay her funeral expenses. I remember her relief that everything was settled. Then the family paid also for her funeral.
Not being family, financially involved, or any too sure of the facts after time had passed, I didn't press the issue, but it seems like it would be an easy scam to pull in a case like this where the person who prepaid was dead and the family had been estranged for some years. You can make written plans, of course, but such things become lost and forgotten rather quickly.
