We could make the protection voluntary. Many people are aware of their limitations and would welcome the assistance of the government. Just as minors cannot enter into contracts, so too could people place themselves under similar protection. A relative could be selected whose approval would be needed. In the absence of a suitable relative, social workers or lawyers might do. Those who wish to retain the right to spend their money as they please, however foolish, would be free to do so. In this way, we can offer protection to those who want it, without infringing on the rights of those who are averse to government interference.
