Advice for Widows and Older Couples, Too

I've been a widow for 2 1/2 years. I have worked with two different financial advisors and have not learned anything.

I would like to educate myself on basic investing, and how to handle the investments my husband and I never discussed, plus taxes, legal issues, etc.

My lack of knowledge in this area has left me paralyzed to do anything.

I am now ready to get on with my life and would like someone I can trust and not pay " an arm and a leg" to get started on a retirement plan, and to follow up on a yearly basis.

I realize I must educate myself to make this happen. Are there any recommended classes I could take on basic investing and legal advice for widows, vs reading several books that I will just read parts of and do nothing about due to frustration?

In the information age in which we live it is amazing how little we know, before experiencing it, about widowhood. Even as we age we still tend to carry with us the belief that "it will never happen to us." Well, maybe it won't and then again it may very well happen to us. Kathleen's book is one of the few resources out there with the information and encouragement so desperately needed by widows. When the time comes to step forward on your own it's great to have some words of advise from a woman who has walked in your shoes.
