Healthcare Spending Tab Threatens Retirement

Thorny Flower's question... a response. The cost of health care is driven to a large extent by the scope of the coverage and the deductible. I have $5k deductible major medical plans for my wife and myself (we pay the first $5,000 each - and insurance pays 100% of everything after that). I am 61 and pay $200 per month for me and $360 per month for my wife who is 57 (she has a pre-existing condition). Hope this helps.

A lot of people my age ,64, with a spouse at 59 are probably wondering how our monthly health insurance COST compares to others who are retired. Are we paying way too much or are we lucky and only pay a little compared to others. I pay 455 for me and 455 for my wife, (corporate retiree health ins from CIGNA). How does our cost compare.

Adult day cares are a much more cost effective alternative for long term care. The average annual cost for a person to attend an adult day care is one-third of the cost of a nursing home. For more information on the cost of adult day services in your state go to the 2009 MetLife Study on Long Term Care Costs at http://www.metlife.com/assets/cao/mmi/publications/studies/mmi-market-survey-nursing-home-assisted-living.pdf or go to Active Day at http://www.activeday.com. Both these sites have information showing cost comparisons for long term care.
