New Guide to Avoid and Treat Elderly Falls

The Oregon Research Institute has a CDC sponsored, evidence-based, fall prevention training program that cuts falls among the elderly 47-55% in three months of practice. The ORI trains teacher trainers so this program can spread across the USA.

Yet the support is missing when it comes to implementing this well proven program on a scale that would meaningfully address the epidemic of falling among the elderly.

Is this support for well proven preventive medicine available from the Federal Government? Are there foundations that would provide support for such a vital cost, pain, and life saving program?

Falls were the leading cause of fatal and non-fatal injuries among persons 65 and older,” cites the task force report. The authors write that estimates indicate falls could lead to medical costs of $43.8 billion by 2020 at the current rate of spending.”

Unfotunately many elderly who present with injuries due to falls are treated in orthopedic or surgical wards without paying much attention to the fall itself as a cause that needs prevention and management.

We represent many products that fit into the categoty of GPS fall detection mobile devices. The products we represent come from manufacturers like Securatrac, AmberAlertGPS, Laipac, and Harbour Technologies to name a few.

Watch this link as this technology takes the "I have fallen and can't get up" anywhere. Most people don't realize that with PERS technology you need to fall close to the base station inside your home. With a LifePROTEKT device we take this mobile and offer additional service of 24/7 emergency call center option.
