I have worked for over 30 years and payed into social security every pay check.

That money is mine!!!

I should be able to get my money without congress telling me how I can get it, or stealing it before I can even get it.

It gets me even madder when the government allows me a $47 food stamp allowance and then steals $30 back saying I am over income.

I get $954 amonth after the goverment takes what they want out of my total benefits.

I would like to see congressmen live on that!!!!!

I am at present on social benifits. But very little is done for a very low earning citizen who has also to support his wife who does not work due to illness and has no social benifits due to yet not being a citizen which is due in 2013. In this case the State should look thru this matter and make things easier for such low income families and even avoid taking tasxes from what little one person earns. What are rules in this case. ????????????????????

The closer a working person approaches retirement, the more Social Security becomes of interest to them. But regardless of age, all the elephants and all the donkeys have parents and grandparents that would be impossible to wean from their Social Security retirements. If you butcher Medicare and/or Medicaid, the sick among the elderly die. Many more seniors are affected by the decreasing solvency of the Social Security retirement benefits.

As the dollar decreases in value against many foreign currencies, the cost of living adjustment becomes less and less valuable. The cost of living increased in both of the years that Obama denied the increase to seniors by producing faulty data to justify the cuts.

during a recent hospital stay, I was charged $1200 over and above what my insurance paid United Health Care and Medicare combined. The amt I was told is called "self medication" That paper cup with the pills in it that you literally pick up from the tray and down with water. I was in hospital a little over 36 hours????Go figure. This is where I believe people have been and are being ripped off. The hospital system is what is broken and needs fixing first. And as for United Health Care premium I had been paying for x amount of yrs, I dropped it, as they will only pay what Medicare does not, saved myself 6,000/yr in premiums. From now on its medicare only, and if not then take payments, or go to the ER like the illegals and get taken care of for nada!!!You know they cant pay and I am sure thats why I paid $1200 in ridiculous costs in addition to insurance company payments.

The only way to save and preserve SS is to eliminate the Congressional retirement system and make the Congressional retirement dependant entirely on the SS system. They could retire on twice the average payout for SS. If they increased the average, then they would get an increase in their retirement pay, if not, then no. They would find many good ways to preserve SS. They would even stop stealing from the fund.

Why not tax to the tilt those who put us in this mess in the first place? Everything in the deficit will be fixed in no time. And why is it that the seniors, and the poor are always the ones everybody want to trample on? Enough is enough. We the common people meed to raise up!

You were misstating facts (or lying) by the second paragraph. Social Security does not contribute to the deficit and is perfectly sound until the year 2036. Any shortfall can be fixed by raising the cap. Most Americans view it as a very successful and popular program.

You must have a grasp of facts in order to write a believable article.

This information is not hard to find.

SS and Medicare are not entitlements, they are based on a lifetime of payroll contributions. If you didn't pay into it ,you don't draw out of it.

We need to drop the requirement of Medicare part A at the age of 65.

+I live in Texas and I agree with Fed Up from n.y. He said everything I agree with. Cut medicare for criminals and drug addicts/ Cut payments for young ladies( young girls) for having babies and so they can get a paycheck and stay at home and don't work. Stop the illegals from from getting social security checks and bring their families over and also drawing social also. Any one that is applying for disability take a drug test and prove that they can't work. Enough is enough. Fed up also susie

Social Security is NOT an entitlement - we invest in it; therefore, it is not an entitlement. Since we also pay for Medicare, I think you can discard that as an entitlement also. I might also add that if one continues to work after starting to received SS benefits, the amount in SS benefits you received increases for the following year, and you receive a check at the end of the year for what you would have received the previous year if the amount earned had been included in determining your benefits.
