Blockbuster Drugs That Will Go Generic Soon

Spent and hour today talking with UHC & Medco about Diovan HCT/Valsartan HCT. Answer: 'Supposedly' even though the drug Diovan and Diovan HCT went off first patent in September 2012, UHC has not changed the rating in our plan from a Tier 3 ($75 copay) to a Tier 1 generic ($15 copay) for Valsartan.

(A report I read said Valsartan is an active ingredient in Diovan).

Anyway, Representatives of UHC and Medco can't say when Generic availability might happen.

My pharmacist said many times the providers will extend the higher copay up to 6 months after patent expiration before passing the benefit to consumers. (Just another way for the health provider to pick up more profits?)

Please explain why my "diovan" prescription was substituted with"valsartan hydrochlorothiazide" they tell me this is the GENERIC

but, I still get to pay the same copay...they also said the cost of the "diovan" was $480.13 and the "valsartan hydrochlorothiazide" is $343.68----but I am still being charged for the same copay. Who is pocketing the extra $146.45?? Why do they do this to us....I need my money also.

Why is there no relief for Diovan (valsartan) users, even though the patent expired in September? There is already a large cut in its price and a generic version available in Canada. Why not in the United States?

Anyone know if Diovan is availble in generic form yet?

Here's the thing: the patent is released for Actos in August so that other companies can start making the generic. It could take up to a year before it is seen the pharmacies. There is no need to get hateful.
