for those who are going to retire - the reverse mortgage provides an easy access to the homes equity without having to sell the home - or without having to pay a mortgage payment

My employer, a City government, started getting rid of ANY and ALL employees, who had 20 years, or more, and replacing them with new, young employees with no experience and considerably less wages. Even the Supervisors and Managers were young; most 30 years old, and younger. I got laid-off after 25 years; age 59 (my 25 year old supervisor laid me off on my birthday). I greatly doubt that employers will do anything to keep older employees. The way of "younger/cheaper" is the future, preferably part-time and without any benefits.

Dear Phil,

We do agree, those in later career will provide an essential pool for the next few years through mentoring, giving back and transferring their skills. We have investigated this for professionals (CEO's and other) in our book What's Next? How professionals are refusing retirement, as well has our Blog Whatsnextdotcom by daleanddona which your readers might want to consult.
