I will be reaching 62 in six months I have been the Mr. mom for the last 21 years my wife has had the full-time job and is the breadwinner. I am three years older than her, my Social Security will only be about $200.00 . I have owned my own business for 40 years and never really paid into Social Security. I have earned enough credits to qualify for Medicare at 65. When she reaches 62 in three years her Social Security will be around $1800 a month can I collect a portion of hers before she is eligible or do I have to wait for her to become eligible. It doesn't pay for me to wait mine is so low it will not go up but a few dollars. What is the best strategy.

I will be 66 September 29, 2013.

Will I get a check for September if I retire on September 1st?

I have a question along the same lines - I will be 66 in August 2013, and want to start getting my SS beginning September if possible. When do I apply to make that happen?

If I am 63 and my husband 60, he earning considerably more money than myself, can I apply for social secuity at age 64 for early retirement then reapply for a higher earning when he reaches age 70? I understand that I cannot file spousal benefits until he reaches FRA, but to calculate the best potential earnings for us both, I was basically curious if I can change my status when he applies for SS benefits?

I really don't have a comment, but do have a question ....

I will turn 66 in July 2013 - someone told me that I could apply for and receive my SS benefit starting in Jan 2013 since I will be turning 66 in that year. Is this true?
